Summer Events in Atlanta You Shouldn’t Miss

Summer in the city is unlike anything you’ve experience before. Atlanta ignites with energy as a wide array of anticipated festivals burst onto the scene. Here are just a few of the summer events we can’t wait for.

June

A beer fest, a music festival in a cemetery, and a colorful family affair are just some of the festivals you should start summer with.

  1. Atlanta Summer Beer Fest – Satisfy your thirst for beer at the Atlanta Summer Beer Fest, which features over 150 beers from some of Atlanta’s finest local breweries. There will be live music entertainment to dance along to, games, and a couple of surprises for merrymakers. Details for this year’s Beer Fest are to be announced.
  2. Flying Colors Butterfly Festival – The Flying Colors Butterfly Festival at Chattahoochee Nature Center (CNC) is an annual family-friendly festival. One of its main attractions is the "Butterfly Encounter" exhibit, where you’ll find yourself face to face with CNC’s most beautiful butterfly species. The festival also features live music, arts and crafts activities, and other exhibits.

    The 18th Flying Colors Butterfly Festival will be held from June 3 to 4, 2017.  General admission tickets cost $12, while CNC members can purchase theirs for only $8.

  3. Tunes from the Tombs – One of Atlanta’s most unique festivities, Tunes from the Tombs is a music festival held in an actual cemetery– the Oakland Cemetery.

    This year, Tunes from the Tombs will be held on June 10, Saturday. More details to follow.

July

Cool down with ice cream and refreshing drinks, and celebrate Atlanta’s vibrant culture with the following events.

  1. Atlanta Ice Cream Festival – Founded in 2010, the annual Atlanta Ice Cream Festival draws thousands of ice cream enthusiasts to Piedmont Park. Chill out with scoops of ice cream from local artisans as well as national brands. A variety of fitness activities and live music complete the event.

    The 7th Atlanta Ice Cream Festival will be held on July 22, Saturday, from 11 AM to 6 PM. For more information, check out their official website.

  2. Atlanta Street Food and Music Fest – Atlanta’s culinary scene wouldn’t be complete without the city’s food trucks, and for one day, the spotlight shines on these purveyors of accessible and inexpensive food. The Atlanta Street Food and Music Fest is held at Stone Mountain Park. Although expected mid-summer, its 2017 date has yet to be announced.
  3. National Black Arts Festival – Experience and celebrate Atlanta’s rich African-American heritage at the National Black Arts Festival. The event is a melting pot of cultural activities, from African dance and music to literary arts.

August

Art, film, and food festivals wrap up summer in Atlanta.

  1. Bronzelens Film Festival – Find out more about Atlanta and its history of moviemaking at the Bronzelens Film Festival, 4-day event that will run from August 16 to 20, 2017.  For more information about the film festival, log on to their official website.
  2. Festival Peachtree Latino – One of Atlanta’s ethnical festivals, Festival Peachtree celebrates the city’s Latino heritage with parades, exhibits, family-friendly activities, sporting events, and live music performances. Last but not the least, the festival will also showcase Latino food. Yum!

    The event is held at Piedmont Park. The festival date for this year is still unconfirmed.

  3. Piedmont Park Arts Festival – By now you know that Piedmont Park is a popular venue for festivals, and with that, of course it has its own art festival. The Piedmont Park Arts Festival features art from over 250 artisans from Georgia and the rest of the region.

    This year, the Piedmont Park Arts Festival will be held on August 19 (10 AM to 5 PM) and 20 (11 AM to 5 PM). For more information about the festival, check out its website.
