Atlantans love a good brunch. And lucky for us, the Atlanta area has some truly great spots for weekend mornings. Here are my top picks that all brunch lovers should check out:
Emerald City Bagels

First stop in my brunch list is Emerald City Bagels. It opens early (6:00 a.m. on weekdays and 7:00 a.m. on weekends), so if you’re an early bird, this one is for you.
Emerald City Bagels is my go-to place in Atlanta whenever I’m craving some signature New York-style bagels. Try any of the bagel sandwiches and admire the cute interior while you enjoy your delicious brunch.
Gato

If you’re in the mood for some quirky but comforting all-American fare, head out to Gato in the neighborhood of Candler Park. It serves breakfast all day. You can have anything, from classic breakfast favorites to salads and large plates.
Gato is also one of the brunch spots often recommended to vegans and vegetarians (or if you simply want a healthier option). My friends always rave about their cross-eyed tofu scramble, which contains crimini, spinach, poblano, and freshly-made corn tortillas.
Gato is open Tuesdays through Sundays, 9:00 a.m. ’til 2:30 p.m.
Folk Art

Another one of my favorites (not just for brunch) is Folk Art in Inman Park. Its fun interior is enough to liven you up any day of the week!
Folk Art serves brunch only on the weekends, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Still, that’s plenty of time to enjoy its brunch menu, which features eggs, waffles, pancakes, burgers, sandwiches, and more.
I suggest ordering the sweet potato beignets as a starter. They’re a unique (and yummy) twist on a New Orleans classic.
The General Muir

The General Muir in Emory Point is another place you should definitely check out if you want Big Apple flair to your Southern brunch. Swing by on the weekend for brunch service, which starts at 8:00 a.m. and wraps up at 3:00 p.m.
Take your pick among platters (complete with bagels, capers, red onion, and olives), freshly-baked handmade bagels, open-faced bagels, breakfast plates, and noshes. Don’t forget your fish and schmear of choice.
For me, however, the shining star of The General Muir is its take on the classic Bloody Mary. Called The General Mary, this morning cocktail is a delightful mix of vodka and The General Muir’s house Bloody Mary, garnished with pickles and celery bitters.
Sun in my Belly

When I’m in the mood for an extra special brunch experience, I go to Sun in my Belly in Kirkwood. Its brunch menu is among the most extensive I’ve seen, with so many good options.
Breakfast consists of classics such as breakfast paninis, eggs benedict, and challah French toast. But if there’s one thing I would go to Sun in my Belly again and again, it would have to be for the house-made lavender biscuits. Yum!
Brunch is available every day, from 8:00 a.m. through 3:00 p.m. You can make reservations on weekday services, while tables are on a “first come, first served” basis on weekends.
Bread & Butterfly

There’s plenty to love about Bread & Butterfly in Inman Park. First, the atmosphere is great and perfect for dates. Second, the whimsical decor will take you to Paris. And third, its brunch menu is simply divine.
Selections are a bit limited, but nonetheless, the offerings are delicious. Make sure to sample the shrimp remoulade, jambon beurre, and trout rillettes. Bread & Butterfly also serves a wonderful take on the ever-trendy avocado toast.
Pair your plates with your cocktail, beer, or wine of choice. The wine selection is especially curated, presenting some of the finest from Burgundy and the Loire Valley.
Rise-n-Dine

Another reason to drive to Emory Village is the humble diner that is Rise-n-Dine. Hands down, this is one of the best places in DeKalb County to get the classic American breakfast fare.
When you’re there, don’t forget to try out the French toast with mixed berries, homemade strawberry jam, sweet potato pancakes, and gourmet bacon. Don’t skip out on the caffeine as well? Rise-n-Dine’s house brew will make you fall in love. Plenty of customers (myself included) agree that it’s one of the best brews in all of metro Atlanta.
