Using glass to raise your home’s value

Are you looking for your next renovation project, preferably one that can increase your home’s value? A fresh coat of paint is simple and relatively inexpensive to do, but if you are looking for something that is worth every penny of your investment, look to glass.

Glass opens up any space. It can make a room feel brighter and larger than it really is. And as such, it can significantly alter the look of your space and boost its value in the process, regardless of the scale of your project. Let us take a look at what you can do with glass, from simple cabinets to walls that let the outside in.

  1. Update your windows

Clean, thermal pane windows provide not only insulation, but allow the outdoors in. If you live in an older home, consider replacing the windows. You’ll experience energy savings with an improved home aesthetic.  If window replacement isn’t an option, consider having your windows professionally cleaned. Clean windows instantly liven up a space.

  2. Insert glass panels to cabinet doors in the kitchen

Solid cabinet doors in the kitchen can be nice to look at, but the novelty can get worn over time. You can update your kitchen to make it feel fresh and new by inserting glass panels. Like glass shelves, you can take your pick from clear glass to even intricately designed stained glass panels.

Aside from making the kitchen look brighter, it also helps with organization. If you use clear glass, you will know exactly where some things are stored. And since it is transparent, it will encourage you to stack items like dishes and bowls nicely.

There are two ways to go about this. One is to replace the cabinet doors entirely with pre-made glass cabinet doors. The other is to take your existing cabinet doors down and update them with glass inserts.

  3. Go for a glass sheet backsplash

When we talk of backsplash, it is usually the tile type that comes to mind and with good reason. They look great, come in a variety of colors and designs, and can liven up the kitchen and the bathroom. But if you are looking for something different, consider glass sheet backsplashes instead.

A glass sheet backsplash in the kitchen can give the space a sleek and contemporary look. A lot of manufacturers also provide glass sheet backsplashes in different palettes, giving you a lot of options to choose from.

Aside from the modern feel and potential boost to your home’s value, glass sheet backsplashes also bring other benefits. It reflects light, which makes it a perfect material for kitchens that do not have much access to natural light. It is also easy to clean— a simple wipe will suffice in most cases of splashes and spills.

  4. Make the staircase safe with glass railings

If the overall look of your house is more on the modern and contemporary side of design, glass railings will simply fit into the whole aesthetic. They are stylish, elegant, and add another element of safety into the home.

Glass railings are also considerably durable and can withstand force. They are usually tempered, making them hard to break and long-lasting. These qualities make glass railings more attractive as wooden railings, over time, get worn out. As a result, they compromise safety and must be replaced as soon as possible.

  5. Simulate indoor-outdoor living with glass walls

Indoor-outdoor living is a huge trend in real estate. You can incorporate this in your home by replacing a section of wall in your property with floor-to-ceiling glass. If you want to add functionality, you can opt for sliding glass doors that truly add an indoor-outdoor element to your house.

Having a glass wall can also affect your energy consumption. There will be more natural light flooding into the space, reducing the need for artificial lighting during the daytime. And as mentioned earlier, glass construction materials are often made to be strong and last a long time.
