Why You Should Move to Intown Atlanta

Intown Atlanta

Intown is a term we Atlantans use to refer to the city’s core, an area composed of centrally located neighborhoods such as Downtown and Midtown.

Depending on whom you ask, Intown can also include areas such as Buckhead, Cabbagetown, Decatur, Edgewood, Grant Park, Virginia-Highland, and West End. Or it can refer to everything inside the I-285 (aka “the Perimeter”).

No matter how you define it, we can give you a lot of reasons to move to Intown Atlanta.

  • Jobs, jobs, and more jobs

Boasting the 10th largest economy in the US, Atlanta was ranked the 6th best city for job seekers in 2017 by NerdWallet. Most Fortune 1000 companies maintain a presence here, including numerous multinational corporations, and quite a few businesses have offices intown.

This makes areas like Buckhead and Midtown great for young professionals wanting to be close to both vibrant urban amenities and employers. While neighborhoods like Virginia-Highland offer peaceful streets and room to grow as well as a close proximity to Downtown.

The city’s diverse economy means that finding a job can be relatively easy (the unemployment rate dropped to just 4% in the first quarter of this year). The city’s biggest employers include Delta Airlines, Emory University, and Emory Healthcare.

  • Varied real estate options

Intown neighborhoods offer a wide range of available homes. Condos and lofts abound Downtown, while Midtown has a sprinkling of bungalows thrown into its mix. Virginia-Highland has single-family homes of all styles and sizes, including well-preserved Craftsman bungalows.

Buckhead features both luxury homes and condos, while Druid Hills, home of Emory University, boasts many of Atlanta’s most beautiful estates. Decatur is charmingly historic and offers plenty of renovated properties.

Whether you’re in the market for a townhouse, a condo in a new mixed-use development, or a beautifully preserved historic estate, you won’t run out of options here. Many of these properties are also within walking distance to shops and restaurants.

Median home prices in Atlanta are still hovering under $200,000, which is remarkably affordable for a city of its size and stature. In comparison, Boston, also an alpha city, has median prices of over $500,000.

  • Sizzling hot culinary scene

Inspired by new and historic influences, Atlanta has long been a foodie city and its many restaurants’ dish up some of the most mouthwatering cuisines in the South.

And we’re not just talking about Southern home cooking. Atlanta’s diverse culture is reflected in its food – the city’s chefs offer an array of flavors from the world’s most notable cuisines.

According to Thrillist, Atlanta’s premier foodie neighborhoods include Virginia-Highland, Midtown, Buckhead, and Decatur.

  • Unbeatable shopping

From independently owned boutiques to farmers markets to upscale malls, Intown neighborhoods will keep even the most fervent shopaholic happy.

Check out Midtown and Central Buckhead, two incredible neighborhoods for those who love to shop and enjoy great nightlife.

The Mall at Peachtree Center in Downtown rises three tiers and has more than 60 shops, restaurants, and services. Discover boutiques and antique shops at Decatur Square. Head to Atlantic Station in Midtown for an overwhelming assortment of specialty stores, open-air shopping, restaurants, and entertainment. Find great locally made crafts at shops in and around Virginia-Highland.

  • Art, culture, sports, and more

Intown neighborhoods are bursting with all kinds of attractions, from museums to public art to sports venues.

Downtown you’ll find the Georgia Aquarium, Centennial Olympic Park, the Center for Civil and Human Rights, Philips Arena, CNN Center, the Children’s Museum of Georgia, and more.
